What we did
Moved into an enclosed cabinet
Everything came off the open steel shelving and into a standing 19-inch cabinet, so it is no longer exposed to dust or accidental contact.
Mounted on rails, not stacked
Switches, router and recorder sit on the cabinet rails with clearance between units, rather than stacked on shelf boards.
Patch runs re-dressed
Patch cords are grouped and tied down the cabinet sides. Nothing hangs to the floor or pools underneath the rack any more.
PC and UPS at the base
The PC and UPS moved to the bottom of the cabinet, putting the weight low and shortening the power runs.
Working area cleared
Leftover material and cartons were taken out from around the rack so the cabinet door opens fully for maintenance.

Faster maintenance
Devices and connection paths are easier to find and work on.
Easier troubleshooting
A clear cable structure helps a technician identify a fault sooner.
Lower downtime risk
Less room for pulling the wrong lead, for unidentified connections, and for faults caused by poor cable management.
Better equipment management
Device placement and cable routes are laid out more methodically.
